The Centre for Surgical Innovation
The Kleysen Institute for Advanced Medicine will be home to The Centre for Surgical Innovation. It will encompass the entire second floor of the Institute, and feature four surgical research theatres, complete with an intra-operative MRI. This 20,000-square-foot centre is where young surgeons will train and new surgical techniques will be developed.
Health Sciences Centre will be the first hospital in Canada and the fifth in the world with an intra-operative suite of this kind… housing a neurosurgery OR, a neurovascular OR and an MRI in between the two.
IMRISNV provides the ability to promptly identify stroke patients who are likely to benefit from immediate intervention. It accurately identifies areas of salvageable brain tissue during a stroke and can assist clinicians in quickly determining specific intervention strategies. This technology allows clinicians to visualize the structure and condition of arteries and to quickly assess the condition of a patient’s brain tissue before, during and after elective neurovascular interventions for aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and vasospastic and stenotic arteries.
IMRISneuro allows for multiple surgical applications including cranial, spinal and general surgery. It provides timely, accurate depiction of changes in brain position and anatomy during surgery, and complete 360° surgical access to the patient.
It delivers the latest available images, data and clarity to the surgical team during the course of surgery, allowing for more informed decisions and ultimately, more effective treatments.
