Health Sciences Centre is now ready to take the next step towards helping advancing the understanding of the causes of suicide among the Aboriginal population.
The creation of an CHAIR IN ABORIGINAL MENTAL HEALTH places Manitoba at the forefront of Aboriginal mental health research and treatment that will impact prevention and treatment programs globally.
Health Sciences Center Foundation is committing to raise $3 million to create an Endowed Chair in Aboriginal Mental Health that will cement Manitoba’s reputation as a global leader in the advancement of Aboriginal mental health research.
The creation of an Endowed Chair will enhance the success achieved in clinical and community based research and is a vitally important step in recruiting world-class researchers and establishing an international centre of excellence.
An Endowed Chair in Aboriginal Mental Health will:
- be the first of its kind in the world
- pursue research studies that will lead to effective and innovative intervention programs to prevent suicide and mental health programs for Manitobans
- establish and maintain critical intramural and extramural links and collaborations that serve to promote research in Aboriginal mental health
- research in the area of Aboriginal Mental Health and promote healthcare excellence, benefiting the diverse communities served by Health Sciences Centre
