Celebrity Human Race Raises $660,000 for HSC Foundation

Posted: October 29, 2015

October 29, 2015 - The Health Sciences Centre Foundation is excited to announce the 3rd annual Celebrity Human Race, presented by Canad Inns, raised more than $660,000 for the Foundation. The event took place on October 16 & 17, 2015 in Winnipeg. Featuring both local and international celebrities, the event saw 16 teams race around Winnipeg solving clues, puzzles and challenges with the help of a celebrity teammate.

"This exciting fundraising event has been extremely well received by the community,” said event Co-Chairs Dan and Josh Chisick, "and it was a truly memorable weekend for everyone involved. We thank all of our donors, sponsors and volunteers, whose efforts ensure that HSC Winnipeg will continue to provide exceptional, patient-centred care every day.”

The event kicked off Friday night with the draft party at TYC Event Centre at Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park, where teams were able to mix and mingle with all of the celebrities as they "drafted” their own celebrity teammate for the race. Saturday, teams and their celebrity teammates enjoyed brunch at JOEY Polo Park, before setting out on the race where teams solved clues and navigated to "pit stops” throughout Winnipeg where they completed exciting challenges – ranging from orienteering and spear throwing, to designing a team cheer, driving an ATV through an obstacle course, kicking field goals with Troy Westwood, and making a leg cast at HSC Winnipeg.

It all culminated in an awards ceremony at Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park that featured an auction fundraiser and a special performance from Canada's Queen of R&B Jully Black. The race winners were also crowned; first place went to the team from IDC Communications and their celebrity team mate, local reality TV personality Johnny Colatruglio.

"This event was an incredible achievement,” said Tina Jones, Chair of the Board of Directors for the HSC Foundation. "Teams of racers offered their time, their energy, and they worked hard to raise funds.  Moreover our sponsors were incredibly generous again.  It underlines the importance of HSC in this community.”

This year’s celebrities included: Billy Baldwin - Actor - Parenthood, Backdraft; Damon Allen - CFL Alumni; John O’Hurley – Actor - Seinfeld and Family Feud; Kevin Martin- Olympic & World Curling Champion; Jes Macallan – Actress - Mistresses; John Salley - NBA Champion, Wellness Advocate and Talk Show Host; Pooch Hall – Actor - Ray Donovan, The Game; Leo Stakos - Host - FISH TV, Philanthropist, and Entrepreneur; and more.
